—
Steven Whiting, British trained furniture restorer, served his indentured apprenticeship in London England. He worked for several major companies and museums after his apprenticeship before moving to America. Finally settling with his wife in Woodstock NY.
Whiting’s workshop is busy practicing old and new skills always involving wood. Most frequently he is found repairing and restoring furniture and damaged pieces. Although on a particularly creative day he makes custom furniture. Because of his Extensive Guild training, and many years of work he has gained a wide range of skills, which he is happy to share and use on the furniture he, restores and repairs.
Whatever the size or value of the piece, all get equal attention. He has established a reputation for careful repairs and prudent restoration which includes: French Polishing; refinishing, water and fire damage, replacement veneers; replacement turnings and replication of missing moldings; furniture making, A significant element of his work is the understanding of the client’ s expectations and budget requirements.
We have a large number of repeat customers that are kind enough to offer referrals. As Steven has remarked: “For me as a craftsman the most satisfying moments are when my clients give a happy, genuine smile when I return their furniture.”
